Derived Parameter Sorting

This feature allows researchers to more efficiently examine data collected. The Review function has been enhanced to allow the user to sort the rows within the derived parameter table in ascending or descending order. An up/down caret symbol within the derived parameter header will indicate ascending or descending order. Subsequently the user can select a specific line of logged data, right click, and then have the option of several different capabilities to further investigate the data or reject the data.

Derived Parameter Alarms

To ensure researchers are aware of scientifically important events, or those representing animal welfare concerns, users may now define alarm conditions per derived parameter via low and high alarm limits. When the derived data goes above or below the defined alarm limits, an alarm will be triggered. During acquisition, a triggered alarm will generate an audible alarm sound. During acquisition and review, a triggered alarm will be indicated in the derived parameter table by updating the out of range data cell’s background color to red.  Subsequently the user can select a specific line of logged data that is of interest, right click, and then have the option of several different capabilities to further investigate the data or reject the data. When exporting derived data from Review, an alarm column will be included with an asterisk in the row of the parameter to indicate the out of range data. Sorting on the asterisk after exporting the data allows the user to quickly identify data that triggered an alarm condition.

Rejected Breath Utility

This enhancement allows users to synchronize to the derived parameter table, signal charts, or trend charts from any breath rejection notification line. This feature allows users to both easily identify rejected breaths, and gain insights into why the automated analysis rejected the breaths.

Apnea Analysis Improvement

This option has been added to allow for a combined threshold for apnea definition. Previously the user could define an apnea by either an “Absolute Breath Duration Threshold” or a percent increase in duration from a “Normalized Breath Duration Threshold”. Additionally, the ability to require either one or both conditions to be met exists, further enhancing overall criteria definition. This enhancement will improve overall apnea scoring success.

Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) Aerosol Generator Support

To complement the release of the MDI Aerosol Generator, FinePointe now allows the creation of a custom component activation / sequencing to achieve various experiment goals. With MDI, the user will set a 5-canister actuation protocol which will automatically run through the task sequence and generate MDI aerosol in a consistent, reproducible manner without user intervention.

Equilibrium and Aerosol-Bypass Support

In DSI’s continuous efforts to simplify the user experience, an important feature has been added which alerts the user when aerosol concentration has reached equilibrium. By entering a target experiment concentration, error range and duration, the software will continuously monitor and report equilibrium properties.

The % of data within the specified targets is also reported and a simple Yes/No notification notified the operator to turn the bypass-valve to provide the subject to the monitored exposure.

Improved Rejected Breath Evaluation Criteria

Enhanced Signal Presentation - An option has been added to display multiple presentations of the physiological signals being analyzed during the Review process.  Previously the only signal presentation graphically displayed was an unfiltered version of the acquired signal.  The signal analysis algorithms create multiple versions of the acquired signal with different filtering techniques to aid in the analysis process.  The filtered signals will have different morphologies due to the filtering being applied.  Viewing both the filtered and unfiltered versions of the signal will provide a better understanding of why certain breaths are marked as “Rejected Breaths”.   This will only be available for data collected on V2.6.0. 


Enhanced “Status Message” Log File – The Rejected Breath log file that was introduced in version 2.5 has been enhanced and now includes: 

  • Elapsed time of rejected breath
  • Reason for breath rejection
  • Parameter value that triggered rejection (out of limit value)
  • Lowest acceptable value of parameter causing rejection
  • Highest acceptable value of parameter causing rejection

Both of the above enhancements will be beneficial when working with Technical Support to adjust XLM file-based algorithm attributes to reduce the number of Rejected breaths within a dataset.  Upgrading to V2.6.0 is not necessary to take advantage of the “Enhanced Log File” feature as your Study can be sent tov260 icon detail Technical Support to be reviewed with V2.6.0.

The detail presented in the FinePointe homepage mouse-over text for Study icons has been enhancement to include “Study Type name”.  

MS Excel Status Performance Improvement

Improvements have been made to how FinePointe tracks the status of MS Excel which translates into a quicker response time when accessing features that utilize MS Excel such as loading studies.  

Expanded Chamber Support

FinePointe now has the ability to store calibration data specific to different chamber versions within the software.  This allows the user to select the chamber type being used by model number.  The calibration information for the chamber model selected will automatically be loaded in the analysis software.  This allows different chamber designs for the same species (e.g. legacy versions of chambers) to be supported.  Previously only the most current chamber design for a specific species was supported.

Inhalation/Exposure Enhancements

Real-Time Accumulated Inhaled Aerosol - FinePointe now integrates each breathe with the digitally measured live aerosol concentration.  By doing so, the researchers is presented with an unprecedented with real-time parameter called Accumulated Inhaled Aerosol (AIA), only available with the DSI Buxco inhalation system.  

Inhalation Rejected Breath

This parameter represents the total amount of aerosol the animal has breathed in, and is available for each respiratory monitored animal.  By utilizing this new feature, researchers have a more complete picture of the delivered dose (DD) yielding better data and more accurate dose/effect relationship.

Furthermore, if the DD is known as a part of the experiment, the user can choose to remove the subjects that have reached that target.  By choosing this approach, homogenous deposition can be achieved, reducing animal count and tightening the study standard deviation.

Multi-Nebulizer Support - DSI has released the Multi-Nebulizer Plenum to increase the Aerogen Nebulizer capacity threefold.  In order to maintain precise delivery and steady aerosol concentration, FinePointe now takes into account all of the connected nebulizer’s efficiencies to have them act in unison.  By doing so, the seamless integration continues on with new hardware releases.
